Walks. There are several short walks in Morrinsville itself, the Morrinsville River walk 1.8 KM takes you past a small pretty waterfall. Several walks in town are listed on the Morrinsville iSite website. Slighty further afield are a large number of options for walks. Check out:
- Wairere Falls walk, Goodwin Road, Okauia, Waikato, spectacular 153 M multi step waterfall. (From Morrinsville its 43.4 KM, 35 mins by car to the Goodwin Road carpark, then 45 mins walk to the lookout, 90 minutes walk to the summit). This is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in New Zealand, and the tallest falls in the North Island.
- Mount Te Aroha, Whitaker Street, Te Aroha (21.3 KM, 18 minutes by car). Several other shorter walks also start at the Mokena Geyser, the only natural soda water geyser in the world. The geyser is located in the Te Aroha Domain, the oldest intact Edwardian domain in New Zealand. [See Wikipedia]. Mount Te Aroha is a 4 hour return walk, the summit is 982 metres and the tallest peak in the area. 360° views of the Waikato and the Bay of Plenty and beyond.
- Whakapipi (Bald Spur Lookout), Whitaker Street, Te Aroha (21.3 KM, 18 minutes by car). Excellent views to the west over Te Aroha towards Morrinsville and beyond. 75 minutes up and back.
- Waiorongomai Valley Tramline, Waiorongomai Loop Road, Te Aroha (25 KM, 23 minutes by car) There are many tracks to explore in the Waiorongomai Valley, a popular 5.5km, 2 hour loop will take you past the oldest known train tracks in New Zealand, into a failed gold mining area. There is a 25° incline which has been restored Enjoy the views and bush.
- Howarth Memorial Wetland Loop Walk, Spur Street, Te Aroha (20.2 KM, 17 minutes by car), This is a one hour circuit around a westland which is a bird sanctuary.
Cycling – mountain bike trails.
- Te Miro Mountain Bike Park on Waterworks road (From Morrinsville 19 KM, 24 mins by car) is a well maintained complex of moutainbike trails. Club website www.temiromtbclub.co.nz
- Mount Te Aroha, Whitaker Street, Te Aroha (21.3 KM, 18 minutes by car). A 10 KM purpose built MTB trail.
- Hauraki Rail Trail – Te Aroha to Paeroa is a 21 KM ride, Te Aroha to Thames 54 KM, Te Aroha to Waihi 46 KM.
